Sold into marriage like a common chattel! Abigail couldn't believe this was happening to her. Despite her betrothal to a steadfast, clean-living Puritan like herself, her father was now selling her off like so much livestock--to a man who was not only a Royalist, but a boor and a sadist as well. In desperation she cried, "I shall never marry you! No matter how much money you give my father--" But one glance at her father's uncompromising face stilled her protests. Clearly she had no choice. She would be they Royalist's wife, but in name only, she vowed, never, never in body....
