England and Russia had declared war. The staunchly determined Florence Nightingale set off for the Crimean front, intent on nursing the wounded. And Jessica Linton, rejecting the rich and idle life her guardians offered, when with her. Jessica wasn't afraid of hard work, of travel to a strange land, of the sight of the sick and dying. Indeed she was glad to be of help. There was only one thing she feared: meeting the man she loved, fighting on the side of the enemy.
