If only she could somehow avoid him! It was impossible. His Grace the Duke of Carlington was back in London. He would no doubt call at Prue's home and she would have to receive him. Surely, she prayed, she would be strong enough to crush the disastrous infatuation, and it must be that, he had inspired in her. After all, he had insulted her, shamed her. he had cruelly awakened her to passion. he had earned her contempt. She must learn to hate him!
