Taught to be a refined French lady, Micaela Dupree despises the crude Americans whose government just purchased Louisiana Territory. She especially resents interloper Hugh Lancaster, a new partner in her family’s business. As for Hugh, he thinks the Creole Duprees are lazy, vain, and, perhaps, dishonest. But he sees Micaela as a beautiful little minx, and his bold advances leave her trembling with outrage…and desire. Then Hugh uncovers a vengeful scheme that includes his own murder and Micaela’s ruin. Now, in the sultry bayou nights, two warring hearts must choose between fear of betrayal and an ecstasy so hot is forges their destiny: to fight together for love.
