She knew nothing about herself except that she had been picked up, half dead, after being shipwrecked in the Pacific, by a stranger called Brendan Kavanagh. She persuaded him to take her with him on his yacht, bound for San Francisco - and speedily fell in love with him. But what kind of a beginning to a love affair was that? for she still had no idea who she really was - but she knew all about Brendan; she knew he was never going to want her!
