Book Description

Melissa Fuller, a reporter at a New York City newspaper, finds her elderly neighbor, Mrs. Friedlander, facedown on the floor, the victim of an assault. She finds herself caring for her neighbor's pets while Mrs. Friedlander lies in a coma. Between her occasional forays into the office, where she is already in trouble for being tardy, Mel tries to get in touch with her neighbor's nephew, Max Friedlander, to let him know about his aunt's condition. Unbeknownst to her, Max, a playboy who's too busy to care anything about his aunt, except for his possible inheritance, arranges for his friend to pretend to be him until his aunt either wakes up out of her coma or dies.

John Trent works at another New York City newspaper. To help out Max, he moves into the Mrs. Friedlander's apartment next-door to Melissa. The books takes place in e-mail messages between Melissa and her friends and co-workers and between John to his brother and sister-in-law, with a few from Max and his super-model girlfriend thrown in.
