In city of New Seattle on the Earth colony of St. Helen's, Amaryllis Lark is a prism, able to focus psychic energy. Lucas Trent, the head of Lodestar Exploration, breaks past Amaryllis's defenses when he hires her to track down a corporate thief. As prim Amaryllis and wild Lucas learn to work together, they try to solve this crime.
One irritating aspect of this novel is Jayne Castle's insistence on using compounds such as coff-tea instead of making up new terms. It gives the story a cutesy aspect that the story doesn't require.
