'''James Buchanan''' grew up in a small Southwestern town, hours away from any other small Southwestern town. A stint at the State University, where he obstensibly majored in English, garnered him a degree usesful for being someone's secretary. The absolute lack of employment oportunities led James to Southern California. After a stint in County Mental Health (administration not client) he ran screaming into the field of Law.

In order to maintain his sanity James writes. At first, no one ever wanted to buy what he wrote. Then the revelation came: “it’s all about the sex.” His first feeble attempts went up on Literotica. After he’d honed his style, he was able to start selling his works. It still amazes James that people pay him to write gay male/bi-sexual sex stories. Although there is always an element of romanticism in his work, James’ stories are often labeled “dark,” “atmospheric,” and “edgy.”

She has been writing since the ripe old age of seven when two younger brothers were among her earliest, captive audience for various short story readings and performances.

An eclectic and voracious reader whose audience has grown outside of the supportive family members, she's had the great fortune of being able to incorporate two of her favorite passions and talents – reading and writing – as a book reviewer for several online e-zines both as a regular staff member and freelancer.

Her short stories, novellas and poetry have seen exposure in various lit and art magazines and other venues – online and in print. Of particular note, heard over the airwaves on KFJC’s morning show, Dancing In The Fast Lane With Ann Arbor (Unbedtime Stories) out of Los Altos Hills, CA (NEW LIFE INCOGNITA was the story of the month for March 2000.). Lorelei Janelle on the other hand, was a very straight forward and practical woman. She did her job and did it to the best of her abilities. Morgan grumbled and buried himself lower in the recliner's plush cushions.

Alec raised an eyebrow at him quizzically. "You didn't sleep much, did you?" he asked, taking a sip of his coffee.

"If I tell you, you've got to promise me that you won't say a fucking word to my parents." When Alec set his cup down on the coffee table slowly, Morgan knew he had his cousin's attention. "I think I met someone," he said quietly as he stared into his own mug, the black coffee cold and untouched.

"And?" Alec prodded. "Who is she?"

Morgan sighed again. "That's the catch, Alec-it's not 'she.'" Alec's eyes grew wide as saucers and Morgan couldn't help but laugh. "I know, I know. I've sat up all night anticipating some smartass remark from you."

Alec sat in stunned silence.

"No comment?" Morgan asked with a sheepish grin.

"W-well," Alec stammered, "I honestly don't know what to say. How did you meet him?"

Morgan knew he couldn't even begin to explain that one truthfully. "I met him at the new nightclub down the street."

"Does he feel the same?"

"Well," Morgan said, remembering the gaze which had held him so mesmerized the night before, "he doesn't know how I feel. To be honest, Alec, I don't even know how I feel." He looked up and met his cousin's hazel gaze.

"Well, how do you feel when you're around him? Or have you really been near enough to him?"

"Not exactly. I saw him at the club, from the other side of the room," Morgan explained, telling only half the truth. "But he hasn't left my thoughts since. I see his face everywhere. I hear his voice when I'm awake, when I'm asleep. My God, Alec, I'm obsessed with another man and I've never even been with one."

Alec nodded. "I know. Look, Morgan, I honestly don't know what to tell you. Do you know anything about him?"

Morgan looked back down into his coffee. "His name is Ashley."

"Do you think you love him?"

"How can I love someone without even knowing them?"

I can only imagine the thoughts that run through a child’s head when she sees so many people begging for her father’s attention, and how the parent reacts might change the dynamic between the two: Does the child feel usurped by her dad’s fans, or the ever-attentive media spotlight? Is she resentful? And if so, when and how does she show this?

The same could be said for Beau and Jeff Bridges, Angelica Huston, Kate Hudson, Jamie Lee Curtis, Natasha Richardson and John Ritter, to name a few. The other end of the spectrum are the kids that totally abhor the whole entertainment scene because of how it treated of affected their parents, or because they don’t have the desire or need to compete with their parents. Frankly, I would assume that’s the majority of celebrity’s children falls in that latter category. That was where I put Hannah. She’s a stargazer and a planet tracker. The only stars she like watching are the kind that fly through the galaxy, which she does with a high-powered microscope.

''DID YOU HAVE A ROLE MODEL FOR HANNAH?''

In a way, yes. The person I feel Hannah is closest to is Drew Barrymore. I guess that’s because I’d read about her estrangement with both her mother and her father—who, I take it, were also estranged from each other—and because I revere her grandfather, John, as an actor. And of course he was quite a lady’s man in his day. In that regard, Drew is one generation removed from being exactly Hannah. Still, her father, the lesser accomplished actor John Drew Barrymore, must have felt the emotional brunt of his father’s legacy. But then again, Drew has shouldered his pain, and the Barrymore legacy. And done so brilliantly, I might add. Through sheer talent, great professional instincts and hard work, Drew has created a legacy that is just as celebrated—if not more celebrated—than John Barrymore’s. Way to go, babe!

She just so happens to be working two jobs, as a grocery clerk and a sex phone operator, in order to support him and their child while he’s taking his shot at stardom. Of course, the minute he gets it, he dumps her for his Oscar-nominated co-star, and her anonymous life goes topsy-turvy in a very public ways. It’s a fun take on celebrity, the tabloid press, and of course phone sex.

''SOUNDS LIKE A FUN READ.''

Well, I think so. As with TRUE HOLLYWOOD LIES, it has a lot of insanely over-the-top characters doing interesting things in all those see-and-be-seen nightclubs and restaurants and hotels we read about, thanks to all the infotainment magazines. In fact, there are a few recurring characters from True Hollywood Lies—and as in that book, a few known celebs make guest appearances, too.

Imagine a sheltered valley and loch somewhere in the west of Scotland. At the head of the valley is an ancient circle of standing stones; at the lower end stands a ruined castle overlooking the village centre of Lachmuirghan.

Among the narrow streets and the grey stone cottages, you'll find a cluster of shops: a general store, a butcher, a greengrocer and a narrow shop selling curios and antique jewellery. Up the street a little way, just past the garage, is the village bookshop that in these times also stocks DVDs, tapes and CDs. Up the hill, you'll find The God in the Valley, one of two village pubs. The other is The Royal Rescue, on the riverbank. The God in the Valley the larger, and caters for visitors and locals alike. Upstairs are three bedrooms which the landlord rents out when the fancy takes him. Very fortunate indeed is a visitor who spends a night at The God in the Valley. And if a weary visitor passes by the God at the top of the village, surrounded by heather gardens and rockeries, is the Lachmuirghan Guest House: a large imposing stone building.

Why these quaint names? Local legend claims The Royal Rescue was used as a hiding place for the Young Pretender during his escape, and the oldest part of the building does indeed date from the early eighteenth century. The God in the Valley, refers to a much, much older legend. Some say that millenniums ago the whole valley was constructed by a seagod for the human woman he loved. He set the stones at one end to serve as her calendar, provided a sweet freshwater stream, blessed the land with extraordinary fertility so she would never hunger, and surrounded the valley with magic to protect her from ills. But cruel fate intervened, she drowned in the river, and as she had refused the gift of immortality he had offered her, the God could not save her. Broken-hearted, the God wept for five years, flooding the valley where he'd buried his love, and then left, never to set foot in the valley again. But many say the magic remains…

Who knows if this is truth or myth? Certainly the loch is slightly saline, but the river leading off it is freshwater – an anomaly that has long mystified scientists and geographers. The fields and hills around are extremely fertile, the climate warmer and more temperate then the surrounding areas. The villagers are healthy and long lived and the air is clear and invigorating. You notice this particularly as you stroll through the village. You pass several villagers who smile and wish you a good day: a young woman pushing a toddler in a stroller, two women talking in front of a cottage, a good-looking, dark-haired man carrying a knapsack smiles at you as you pass. A dog barks through a garden gate.

Walk up through the village, towards the hills. Once past the last cottages, pause and look around you. In the shifting light, it seems the village changes. Is that a ruined church, not a stone circle? And are those dark shapes along the loch rocks or caves? It seems the mountains are closer, and greyer – perhaps the mist plays tricks on the eye.

Or does Lachmuirghan change as you watch? The abandoned manor house you passed at the end of the village, now appears to be a castle, complete with battlements and a ruined tower. The road back towards the village surely has more twists and turns that you remembered. Where did that farmhouse in the distance appear from? Surely it wasn't there a moment ago?

Walking back towards the village, anticipating a glass of something alcoholic at The God in the Valley, you notice a small teashop offering Honey-Cakes and Sweet Cream that you missed on the way up. In front two women stand talking but their skirts are long, and one wears a bonnet and another a knitted shawl. A little way on, you meet the young woman, no longer wearing blue jeans and T-shirt, but long skirts and pushing a large pram. She smiles as before, and mentions that Angus is waiting for you at The God in the Valley.

Before you can ask who 'Angus' is and how he knows you, she turns down a narrow side street and disappears. Meanwhile you notice the garage is a smithy and farrier, and several more shops have appeared: a baker, a wool and haberdashery shop and McGreerly's Apothecary .

Lachmuirghan has changed and so have you. Your hair is longer, tied back with a ribbon, you're walking faster, and as you go along you catch sounds and scents you missed before: bread baking, soup simmering, roses in a garden, a kettle whistling on a stove, a child singing, a baby crying, and a man telling his love what he plans when the bairns are fast asleep. Blushing a little, you walk on feeling a little envious, until you remember the mysterious Angus waiting for you. Ahead the sign for The God in the Valley rocks in the breeze. Outside sits the man you passed earlier, watching you. Is he what you want? Do you dare? Would it be safer to duck into the bookshop and get lost among the stacks and shelves? Or why not nip down a narrow side street which catches your eye? A side street that appears to lead down to the shore where the sun glints on the water. As you stand trying to decide, a voice calls your name from a window across the street.

Where will you go? And to whom? The choice is completely yours. Explore the village with us, and live out your fantasy.
