New page

Mid-list is pretty much how it sounds. Mid-list authors tend to have solid, but not spectacular, sales for their publishers, leading to constant worries that the numbers won't justify another contract.

In publishing catalogs, mid-list authors are generally (no surprise) found in the middle of the catalog. [http://bookangst.blogspot.com/2005/01/does-rose-by-any-other-name-further.html BookAngst 101] defines mid-list at 15,000 or fewer books printed. The actual publisher definition of what constitutes a mid-list author is dependent upon that publisher's sales standards.

Authors don't want to be mid-list -- they want to be [[Bestseller|bestsellers]]; however, this status is achieved by relatively few authors.
