Having won the heart of his ex-captive and ladylove, Elizabeth, and been granted a pardon by the British Navy, Marlin, captain of The Merciless, sees nothing but smooth sailing and peaceful days ahead of them. They’re heading to Freeport to marry, he has been given a commission as a privateer, and his past has been laid to rest in a watery grave.

Discovering The Merciless' sister ship, The Fearless, dead in the water, Marlin can only draw one terrible conclusion. Charles is alive and again in control of the Endeavour. It’s a race against time as Marlin attempts to fulfil his promise to Elizabeth while evading the ship that is relentlessly searching for her, and things are only made more dangerous when they defeat The Seven Stars and Chaos becomes intent on destroying them.

Marlin is a man of honour and is now bound by the code of the privateer, but when things take a turn for the worse, he finds himself willing to do anything and everything to protect what is his and save the woman who so thoroughly captured his heart. Elizabeth discovers her true strength in a pair of pistols and a sword, and will stop at nothing to protect her husband and those she loves.
