-Jesse Kincaid stops a wagon and kidnaps one of the passengers - Haley Winthrop, the bride-to-be of Lucas Stoner - much to the confusion of the driver, who knows him. Lucas Stoner ordered the death of his father and had it carried out while Jesse was driving cattle up from Texas, and now Jesse wants him brought to justice. In this, most of the townsfolk are sympathetic.
