categories

I have been playing with the category:Plot Devices, trying to put that category (Plot Devices) on all of the existing categories that are plot devices (that makes them subcategories, I think). Of course, I don't necessarily know the difference between plot devices and some other element of the book, like the career of the characters (which might be a plot device??). Anyway, I have asked Romancewiki to look at it and I know that you know much more about this than I do, so if you want to click on the category link above you can take a look at what I have added so far. --Kay T 11:21, 3 March 2007 (PST)

I've left some comments. My feeling would be that a plot device wouldn't necessarily include careers, unless they're something that significantly moves the plot along. So, for example, 'Duke' might be a plot device if someone suddenly comes into a title, there are other people who want to kill the protagonist/stop him being recognised as Duke. But in that case the dukedom is in some ways playing the same role as treasure or a state secret might do in other stories, so maybe it would count as an abstract sort of McGuffin? Hmm. I think you might be better off asking some writers about this. I'm sure plot devices must be something they discuss often, and I've never been taught much, if anything about them.--Laura V 14:53, 3 March 2007 (PST)

the good part is that all versions are saved, so you don't have to worry about that. You go into the history tab at the top of the page and you will see every version listed. You can also revert automatically (without having to delete the text), (choose to compare two versions, the vandal's version and the last good version, then when you have the two versions on the screen choose "undo" on the vandal's version). Long Pages

Laura, long time since we have talked. The Bibliography pages are getting pretty long A-G is 37,000+ bytes and H-O 35,000+, P-Z is coming up fast on 33,000+. Probably need to divide them again. If you want me to do it or help you, let me know. --Kay T 00:54, 11 October 2009 (UTC)

Yes, please do help! I'm not quite sure how to do it, because it would probably mean that the existing page names have to be changed, to match their new contents, and all the internal links to those pages would have to be changed too. I don't think I even have the ability to change page names. So if you could make the necessary changes, that would be great.

Laura, I finally got around to doing this, breaking down the three pages into six. That should hold us for a while! I think I got all of the links to the biblio pages, let me know if there is a problem. --Kay T 03:24, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

Question

Green Strawberry, I've noticed that you've been working on series published by Harlequin/Mills & Boon and I wondered if you were planning to create a new page for the "In Her Shoes" series. I've got one of them: Jessica Hart's Cinderella's Wedding Wish, and it mentions another on the inside page (Susan Meier's Maid in Montana). I'm sure there must be more but I don't know which books they are and there isn't a page for them in the Wiki. I'd follow up on it myself but it looks like you've got a special template and are a lot better at adding things to the Wiki than I am. --Laura V 22:01, 12 March 2011 (UTC)
