Mills & Boon started the By Request imprint as a double helping of romance by request in August 1995, replacing the monthly reprint series Best Seller Romance - than called Favourites - and the bimonthly Duet with a bimonthly volume of 2 full-length themed novels by various authors and a bimonthly volume of 2 full-length novels by a single author.

Starting in January 1998, the monthly volume contained 3 themed novels, in January 2006 Mill & Boon increased publishing from one volume to two, in July 2010 publishing increased from two to four volumes, and in July 2011 publishing decreased from four volumes to three.
