Athena Force was originally a 12-book miniseries within the Silhouette Bombshell imprint which ran from July 2004 through June 2005. The first six books told the stories of graduates of the Athena Academy, a private school for educating strong women. The next three books were a trilogy about three sisters that continued a storyline from the previous six.

The series returned in April 2006 with five more books revisiting some of the original characters.

It was to return again in January 2007 for another set of books, beginning with Trust by Rachel Caine. When the Bombshell line was canceled, Caine's book was replaced by The Medusa Prophecy by Cindy Dees in the January lineup, the imprint's final month, though Trust initially appeared on Amazon before being removed.
