GO AWAY. THIS IS AN EVIL FAMILY. The words were scrawled in black crayon on the wall above Jennifer's bed. Jennifer had plenty of reason to be afraid even before that ominous note appeared. At first, the Beaudin mansion had seemed warm, welcoming haven; and the Beaudin family, into which she was to marry, appeared to abound in strength, serenity, and stability. But that was before she first heard the strange whispers in the night... Surrounded by apparently friendly people, Jennifer began to feel terribly alone. The tip of Long Island at the turn of the century was an isolated place to begin with, and now the bewildered girl began to wonder if it would be her future happy home -- or her last resting place. And she also began to wonder if there was anyone to whom she could turn for aid...
