Books numbered 1745 through 1840 were published in 1974. Prolific authors such as Mary Wibberley, Margart Malcolm, Charlotte Lamb, Betty Neels, and many others were mainstays of the Harlequin Romance list. While the romances were read around the world, the stories remained largely focused on the British experience, even as the titles suggested stories set in exotic locales (a concept that would become the cornerstone of the Presents line that launched in 1973.
