==Book Description==

Grace Dovercourt lives near the marshes, with only a maidservant to keep her company. Though of good family, Grace has a short right leg that pains her and causes her to limp. She knows she's unlikely to marry, so rather than be a burden on her brother, she lives off a small legacy left to her by her father and works as a copyist for the schoolmaster and writes letters for the illiterate folk of the area. Late one night she hears gunshots and discovers a wounded man in her lean-to. The man, Henri, has many secrets and is apparently being pursued by his enemies, agents of the French Government who had worked for Robespierre.
