Sergeanne Golon was the name that [Anne Golon] was forced to use when her books were first published in 1956 in Germany and in 1957 in France. At the time French publishers believed a book by a woman would not sell. Since her husband Serge did much of the research for the book, a compromise was finally reached by naming the author Sergeanne Golon. Later books and editions were published under the names [Anne and Serge Golon] and [Anne Golon].
