Imprints are the various divisions in a publishing company.
- Imprints are created to capture a particular type of book or idea:
- as a series (Harlequin Presents)
- as a line inside the publisher's [[ISBN Prefix] (HQN by Harlequin)
- as a separate line with its own ISBN Prefix (Mira by Harlequin)
- Former publishing houses are kept as an imprint after they were acquired by another publisher (Avon and HarperCollins)
