Restoration is a time in England which began in 1659 with the invitation to Charles Stuart to return and assume the throne of England after the execution of his father (Charles I), the Commonwealth and the rule of the Cromwells. The monarchy was restored by his coronation as Charles II in 1661.

Usually the term is used for the time following the restoration of the Stuarts to the throne of England. In the arts it is a period of revival after Puritanism.
