American author Johanna Lindsey, aka Helen Johanna Lindsey (b. 1952), was born in Germany where her father had been stationed at the time. After moving around a lot with her parents she spent most of her teenage years in Hawaii. She married after high school and while raising her children she felt the urge to write. In 1977 she published her first novel (Captive Bride) at Avon, but in 2003 she changed her publisher to Pocket Books. Her historical romances cover many historical periods. She lives in Maine.
