There are no hard rules in the Romance Genre except that the novels must contain a relationship and romantic love, and have an emotionally satisfying ending.
It is arguable whether relationships must be between just two people, as some Romance Sub-Genres tackle alternative relationship types.
There are a lot of great myths surrounding what can and can't be included in a romance novel -- every single myth can be disproven.
