Dominic, the Marquis of Vidal is a rake, a seducer, and known for his wicked temper -- he is known as the Devil's Cub. The future Duke has his eye on sweet Sophia Challoner, a match her grasping mother encourages. Sophia's sister, Mary, knows that Dominic's offer is not honorable and intervenes to stop the marriage. She even goes so far as to disguise herself as Sophia -- a plot that is discovered by Dominic. He then decides to take Mary to Paris with him
This is the sequel to Georgette Heyer's These Old Shades. Where some readers find Leonie in These Old Shades to be too young and innocent for the rakish Duke of Avon, they find Mary to be a more fitting foil for his son, Vidal.
