1956 saw a large number of romances and Westerns published by Harlequin. Agatha Christie was also published by Harlequin in 1956 as was Edgar Wallace. The romances released by Harlequin skewed toward Doctor-Nurse romances. Though the preponderance of heroines in these novels were nurses, Harlequin was also publishing books featuring females physicians.
