Books numbered 1649 through 1744 were released as Harlequin Romances in 1973. Rachel Lindsay, Mary Wibberley, Anne Mather, and Joyce Dingwell were among the many well-known authors published in 1973 by Harlequin. In 1973, Harlequin also launched the internationally-flavored Harlequin Presents imprint (reportedly the brainchild of debut author Anne Hampson), and many of the authors who wrote for Harlequin Romance took advantage of the opportunity to write for the more sensual Harlequin Presents line as well.
