Joe Shanahan, an undercover detective, has been following Gabrielle Breedlove because she is a suspect in the theft of a priceless Monet. Gabrielle thinks that Joe is stalking her and she assaults him with a blast of hairspray to his face, a knee to his groin, and a gun to his face. After he recovers he arrests her for assault and pressures her to let him pose as her boyfriend and work at her store so that he can search for proof to incriminate Kevin Carter, Gabrielle's business partner, whom he thinks must be the mastermind behind the theft.
