Laurel Kane has been asked to review a book, Love Is Not The Answer, for the small newspaper she works for. She buys into the premise of the book -- that you can't trust love to last as a basis for a committed marriage, thus you should start with more practical things, not attraction or love. Joe Squires has opened a coffee cart outside her office building, and when she shares her thoughts on the book he is determined to prove her wrong. He of course is a gorgeous, eligible, successful bachelor, but Laurel is determined to resist her attraction to him. They agree to each explore their own philosophies of dating and for Laurel to write up the results in a weekly column of point-counter-point.
