MELODIES OF TERROR. Music meant everything to Betty Giles. More than ever, now that her mother was dead, it was her entire life. Literally her life -- for in addition to being her only solace in that gloomy, frightening New York town house where she now had to stay, it seemed to be her sole defense against the people who hated her and wanted her to leave.
