Multi-Cultural romances are a sub-genre that focus on stories about non-white characters or cultures. The romance tradition is heavily skewed toward Anglo-European cultures and time periods such as the Regency. Multi-Cultural romance stories often focus on the African-American experience, but also include other countries and ethnic groups.

There are publishers who focus their lines on Multi-Cultural romance as well as publications such as Shades of Romance magazine devoted to the genre.
