Mills & Boon started to release 2-in-one volumes of reissued stories by one author as an imprint in September 1983, supplementing the Mills & Boon Best Seller Romances. At first the titles were called The Best of "Author", which changed to The "Author" Collection in 1986 and to "Author" Duet in June 1992.

Starting as one title per month the imprint was reduced to one volume bi-monthly in 1985. Since October 1990 two titles were released in the even months. In August 1995 the Duet and the Mills & Boon Best Seller Romances were discontinued in favour of the themed Mills & Boon By Request imprint.
