Mandy Harlon's handmade dolls reputedly had special powers. But you couldn't prove that by Jack Slater.
In the few hours he'd been in the Appalachian wilderness, he was run off a mountain, robbed of his purchase and sent to a hick jail, where a blubbery good-old-boy sheriff threatened to let him rot.
