Book Description
After Susan Hampton's father loses the family home due to his gambling problem, she goes to live with an aunt who sees her as nothing more than an unpaid servant. Deciding it's better to earn her keep, Susan applies for a job as a lady's companion. In her new position, she falls in love with David Wiggins, the estate's bailiff, an unsuitable choice for a woman of her station.
