This book is a rewritten and expanded version of Risen Glory.
Katherine Louise Weston is an orphaned Southerner in the post-Civil War era, who comes to New York City to find the man who inherited her family plantation, Major Baron Cain. Kit, as she's known, passes for male so easily that she finds herself working the Major. Cain's long-lost mother has not only left him the plantation she inherited from her last husband - Kit's father - but also with a stepsister. When he realizes that the stepsister is working as his stableboy, he ships her off to finishing school, when she returns three years later he is smitten.
