The RITA® Futuristic/Fantasy/Paranormal category debuted in 1992. In 1995, the Futuristic/Fantasy/Paranormal category had a name change to Paranormal/Fantasy/Time Travel. In 1996, the category settled into the Paranormal title. This remained the category name, except for a brief detour to Paranormal Romance in 2002, until 2004, when the category was renamed Best Paranormal Romance.
