Jo Goodman is the pen name for Joanne Dobrzanski. Her first book was completed in 1979 and finally published in 1984. She chose that pen name because she was always called Jo and Goodman is simply a loose translation of Dobrzanski.
Although she graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a major in biology and a minor in chemistry she found that she was not suited to marine research. Instead she became a therapist.
