She lives in the southern region of the United States. She also publishes contemporary romance under her real name Jessica Bird (Jessica Rowley Pell Bird)[1]. She is a member of the Romance Writers of America.

Bird published her first novel, Leaping Hearts in 2002.

J.R. Ward was a 2008 RITA® finalist in the RITA®: Best Paranormal Romance category with her novel Lover Revealed.
