Tess Gerritsen was born in 1953 and practiced as a medical doctor before turning to writing full-time. A graduate of Stanford University who went to medical school at the University of California, San Francisco, she was practicing medicine in Hawaii when she began her writing career. Her first novel, Call After Midnight was published in 1987. She won the 2002 RITA® in the Romantic Suspense category for her novel The Surgeon. She has also received the Nero Wolfe Award for best mystery novel for her novel Vanish. Gerritsen has also been nominated for Edgar and Macavity awards. She wrote the screenplay for television movie Adrift which starred Kate Jackson. Her work currently focuses on the medical thriller genre with a dose of romance.
As an author for Harlequin Intrigue, she published eight novels.
