Caroline Grayson has a passion for botany, but is denied the opportunity to attend Oxford due to her gender. She concocts a scheme that would allow her to get her education in New York, but before she can accomplish this goal, her father compels her to marry Brent Ravenscroft, Earl of Weymerth. Both parties enter the marriage with a clear idea of what they hope to gain, only to lose track of personal goals as they fall in love.
