Regency Romance is the title given to the genre of romance novels that are not just set in Regency times, but also a type of story which concentrates on traditional story lines, e.g., marriages of convenience, arranged marriages, nanny and/or governess romances. Although there is sexual attraction and tension, there is usually no sex between the unmarried hero and heroine. Often the writing is more formal or stylized. The books are usually shorter and distinctive from other "full-length" historical books which are also set in the Regency period.

In the past all publishers had a line of Regency books. In 2005, several publishers stopped publishing traditional Regencies.

Regency - The Regency period in England began in 1811, when Geroge, the Prince of Wales, was made the Prince Regent because his father, King George III, had finally become too insane to rule. The period before 1811 is known as the Georgian period. The Prince was only Regent until 1820 when King George III died and the prince became George IV. He ruled until 1830 when his younger brother became William IV. When William died in 1837, Princess Victoria became Queen.
