Daphne Urban is a vampire -- and the government knows her secret. Their deal? Spy for us or die. After 500 or so years, she's acquired more than a few skills (and languages) that make her a useful tool. Her first job is to get close to a seductive arms dealer -- no problem for a sexy vampire. But her mission is made complex when she encounters the vampire slayer, Darius -- a slayer who has a hard time fighting temptation.
Eternal life can be boring -- as Daphne notes -- and being part of a team of vampires offers comic moments (a gay vampire looking for his big break on Broadway). While clearly influenced by Buffy The Vampire Slayer, this series makes its own mark by taking the perspective of vampires who have seen it all and will see even more. Daphne's backstory is interesting -- she hasn't had a relationship since she accidentally killed Regency poet Lord Byron.
This is Book One of Russe's "The Darkwing Chronicles".
