Book Description

Jonet, Marchioness of Mercer, is rumoured to have been responsible for her husband's death. She is also rumoured to have many lovers, among them David, Lord Delacourt. Her late husband's brother is scandalized and wants to take her children away. He enlists his nephew, Captain Cole Amherst, to investigate. Cole is recently returned from the wars, and is seeking his place in life as a second son. He is leaning toward the church so is tempted by Jonet, who appears to be so beyond him.
