Heroes and heroines from previous titles reappear in later books, and the author refers intensively to their stories. Since the series runs for 20 years now, even returning readers are probably out of their depth to remember all those details. Constant figures are:

  • feetlot of the Ballenger brothers
    • Calhoun and his wife Abby (Calhoun)
    • Justin and his wife Shelby, neé Jacobs, descendent of the founder of Jacobsville (Justin)
  • Dr Jed "Copper" Coltrain (Coltrain's Proposal)
  • Attorney Blake Kemp (Boss Man)
