Books numbered 2881 through 2952 were published as Harlequin Romance titles in 1988. As the eighties drew to a close, Harlequin Romance continued to publish sweet romances by classic authors such as Essie Summers and Emma Goldrick. Flirtation River by Bethany Campbell became the first Harlequin Romance title to win the RITA (known then as the Golden Medallion) award.
