The victim of unrequited love, Whitney Stone is sent to Paris where she attracts the attention of the Duke of Claymore. Whitney, however, continues to pine away for her first love, Paul. Claymore exhibits patience, and when financial circumstances ruin Whitney's family, he sees opportunity.

While Whitney, My Love is cited as a classic romance, many readers find the cruelty and violence of Claymore to be uncomfortable. Whitney's immaturity also grates on the nerves of some readers.
