The Inspirational category was introduced into the Golden Medallion competition in 1985. The category was not awarded from 1987 - 1994. Until 2004, the name of the category remained Inspirational, except for a brief journey into the name Inspirational Romance in 2002. The name Best Inspirational Romance was implemented in 2004.
