The Golden Heart contest is the pre-eminent writing contest for unpublished romance authors. It is presented annually by the Romance Writers of America. The following authors were the winners of the 1987 Golden Heart.

Contemporary Single Title - Terese Daly Ramin
Historical - Nadine Crenshaw
Long Contemporary Series - Sally J. Siddon
Regency - Joan E. Overfield
Short Contemporary Series - Judith Ann Myers
Young Adult- Leila E. Davis
