Mills & Boon began publishing medical romances in the UK under the Doctor Nurse Romance imprint in 1977. In 1989 the imprint name changed to Medical Romance and in 1993 to Love on Call. The current name of Medical Romance was adopted again in 1996.
The name of the series may have changed and the cover look far more often than that, but the continuity of numbering remained.
Many of these stories have also been published in the United States (Harlequin Medical Romance) and in translation elsewhere by various publishers and imprints.
In 2000 Mills & Boon launched a series called St. Elizabeth's Children's Hospital, which was also published in the United States.
