Sergeanne Golon was the name that Anne Golon was forced to use when her books were first published in 1956 in Germany and in 1957 in France. At the time, French publishers believed a book by a woman would not sell. Since her husband Serge did much of the research for the book, a compromise was finally reached by naming the author Sergeanne Golon. Later books and editions were published under the names Anne and Serge Golon and Anne Golon. See biography and details under Anne Golon.
