Elizabeth Lowell is a pseudonym for Ann Maxwell, who began her career in 1975 writing Science Fiction under her own name. She used the name Elizabeth Lowell (Ann's middle name plus her husband Evan Maxwell's middle name) since 1983 when she began to write category romances for Silhouette. It is the name now solely used on the fiction that Ann Maxwell writes by herself.

As Elizabeth Lowell she has received the numerous professional awards in the romance field, including a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Romance Writers of America in 1994. She currently resides in the Pacific Northwest.
