In the werewolf world, instinct rules supreme. One instint all werewolves live by is the ability to identify their mates. Another is the need for a pack.

Unwilling to accept the claim of a potential mate, Jane Lyke was brutalized and sent into exile. Slowly she heals and learns to live without the comfort of her pack. Now, even if she could go back, she wouldn’t. She has proven she needs no one, mate or pack.

Unwanted at birth, Remy Silva has spent his entire life living outside the werewolf community. He is perfectly content living his life as an outcast, answerable to no one. As proprietor of the highly successful nightclub The Outcast, he has his pick of women and has no desire to find a mate. Why settle for one, when there are so many available?

When these two meet, sparks fly. Yet neither is willing to admit that this just might be the one. Until another were threatens Jane. Now they will have to face their fears if they want to have a future.

“Remy’s here.”

Jane wanted to curse. She wanted to jump up and run. What could make the night any worse? Everything she’d hoped wouldn’t happen, had. First the male weres, now Remy Silva. Damn. Damn. Damn.

“Where? Has he seen us?” It was all she could do not to jerk around and look for him.

“Yeah. He’s headed over this way.” Vivian nodded her head in the direction over Jane’s shoulder.

Before she could stop herself, Jane glanced over her shoulder and met the gaze of a predator. The connection was powerful and she felt the impact down to the soles of her feet. The crowd and noise around them seem to recede into the distance as Jane was helplessly ensnared by his stare. Physically, he was Roman’s replica--same imposing height, same black hair and piercing blue eyes, but intuitively Jane knew him. There was an air about him, a sense of being untamed. Roman was a physically imposing man, but he had none of the wildness, rawness about him that Remy did. Maybe, that was why she had given Anthony Roman’s name rather than Remy’s. Named Roman the father of her fictional baby rather than him.

It seemed he felt the impact of her gaze as well, for he hesitated, the pause infinitesimal and noticed only by Jane. She watched his eyes widen and then narrow. When his mouth tightened and a strange expression crossed his face, alarm skittered up her spine, and her heart kicked into overdrive. If she had wanted to avoid him before, given her shocking response to him, the feeling was double now. Suddenly, the other weres in the room weren’t as threatening as the one headed toward her table.

Breaking eye contact, Jane swung her head back around. She met Vivian’s speculative gaze. “This is a set-up.” The smug smile that curved her friend’s red-painted lips was all the confirmation she needed. “You bitch.”

Vivian threw her head back and laughed at the curse. “True. But all female weres are bitches. It’s a canine thing.”

“Why would you do this?” Jane was completely confounded.

The smile disappeared from Vivian’s face. “Because you need to stop running from who and what you are. I’ve watched you run from yourself. You tell yourself you’re healed, but you’re not.” Jane snorted. Ignoring the interruption, Vivian continued. “You remind me of my sister. You’re hiding in the human world. You’ve let Anthony rob you of the most important part of yourself. Remy, he’s a good guy, but he won’t let you hide.”

“Thanks for the analysis, Dr. Vivian.” Sarcasm dripped from every word. “Remind me to return the favor.”

“Jane, you have nothing to fear from Remy. He won’t hurt you. Still, the male wolf in him won’t let you escape until he has ruled you out as a potential mate. Think of it as a win-win situation. You either get a hot mate or a hot date.” She peered over Jane’s shoulder, and Jane could tell by the grin splitting her face that Remy was fast approaching.

“Ha. Ha. Payback’s hell.” Then it was too late to say anything else. Remy was at her back. She could sense him, feel him. Refusing to turn around, she glared at Vivian. Her best friend ignored her, and hopping up from her seat, hugged the man standing behind her.

“Vivian, what are you doing here?” His voice was deep, smooth.

“Oh, we’re just out for a night on the town. Remy have you met my friend Jane?” With that question, Jane knew she was going to have to turn around.

Turning, she made eye contact with a chest. It was a nice chest, a broad chest. A white, silk shirt hugged the trim torso. Okay, it was more than nice. Jane worked around physically fit people all day, and she had to admit, even covered the chest was a better than nice. Her eyes traveled up, to a perfect pair of lips. Perfect was the only word for them. They were neither too thin nor too full. If she was Goldilocks, she would have to say they were just right. The nose was thin, slightly long. When she stared into his eyes, she forgot to breathe. Dark blue. Electric blue. Incredible eyes. They were heavily lashed, almost feminine. But nothing in their expression was feminine. It was the expression that snapped Jane out of her preoccupation with his looks.

“Remy, this is Jane Lyke. Jane this is Remy Silva.”

He had one arm slung around Vivian’s waist. The other he held out to Jane. She stared at the outstretched hand. Politeness forced her to accept it, even though she didn’t want to do so. Didn’t want to touch him. In slow motion, she watched her hand come up and join with his. Long, lean fingers clasped hers. She noted his hand was large and engulfed her own. There was a heat in the connection. Her skin prickled, and the faint hair along her arms stood up

“It’s nice to meet you.”

“Me, too.” Not the best, but that was all she could come up with. The simple contact of their hands was causing her system to go haywire She tried to jerk her hand away. His hand tightened in response, refusing to let her go.

“Would you like to dance?”

NO! That was the last thing she wanted. She had dreaded meeting him because of the things she had imagined he’d heard about her from Roman. She hadn’t counted on this unwilling fascination. She opened her mouth to refuse.

“Nn...” Her lips didn’t get the opportunity to form the shape of o.

“Good.”

Hands still clasped, Remy turned and pulled her toward the dance floor. Jane stumbled behind him and had to quicken her pace to keep up with him. The crowd should have worked against him, but it didn’t. Like Moses and the Red Sea, the throng parted before him, leaving the way to the dance floor clear.

  • "Jayelle Drewry's The Outcast is one super sizzling story! The paranormal elements are so intricately woven into the story that they seem almost realistic and ordinary. After her brutal punishment and subsequent exile, Jane learns to find the strength in herself. I really liked that about her character; although she was smaller and weaker than Remy, she didn't automatically submit to him. In fact, in many ways, she is very similar to Remy. They both learn and grow from the pain in their past...But fate has a way of sneaking up and surprising them. Their desire for each other is immediate and quickly culminates in some scorch-the-screen sexual scenes, and as their need for each other grows, so do their feelings. These two are characters that you could easily fall in love with, rooting for their happy ending as the plot unfolds and the danger to both is revealed. The follow up story to Ms. Drewry's The Other Half, The Outcast is a stand-alone story about werewolves and their mates which will no doubt entice you to pick up the first one." 5 Stars @ Just Erotic Romance Reviews

  • “Remy is a real man with wonderful sexual magnetism and a way of thinking that made me laugh and sigh. I love Jane’s strength and attitude. The slow building tension between the two kept me reading well after my bedtime just so I could see when they would finally give in to temptation, and it was well worth it! This is a great story that continues the first of the series. I recommend this book to anyone that likes a good hot erotic read with werewolves…” 4 Cups by Jenn @ Coffee Time
